Alginate mask is a professional cosmetic procedure based on alginates (salts of alginic acid), which are extracted from seaweed. When combined with water, they form a thick gel, which hardens into an elastic “mask-stick” in a few minutes and adheres tightly to the skin.
Moisturizing alginate mask is additionally enriched with components that intensively saturate the skin with moisture, soothe and smooth its surface. These can be:
- hyaluronic acid
- collagen
- plant extracts (aloe, chamomile, green tea, etc.)
- amino acids, trace elements, vitamins
Such a mask works as an “occlusion”: it creates a protective film under which all active ingredients penetrate better, and the skin retains moisture as much as possible.
Moisturizing alginate mask is recommended if you notice:
- feeling of tightness after washing
- dryness, peeling, dull complexion
- small facial wrinkles “from dehydration”
- traces of fatigue, stress, lack of sleep
- irritation and slight redness of the skin
Alginate mask is often used as the final stage after cleansing, peeling, biorevitalization or other cosmetic procedures
Although alginate masks are considered a gentle and safe procedure, there are situations when a cosmetologist may refuse or postpone the session:
- individual hypersensitivity to the mask components
- severe skin diseases in the acute stage (dermatitis, eczema, infectious processes)
- fresh skin damage, wounds, scratches in the application area
- allergic reactions that are ongoing at the time of the visit
Before the procedure, the cosmetologist always clarifies the state of health, skin characteristics and, if necessary, selects alternative care options.
Immediately after the procedure, you usually see:
- a fresher and “rested” look of the face
- a more even skin tone, a slight glow
- significantly less dryness and tightness
- smoothing of fine surface wrinkles
- reduction of redness and sensitivity
The effect is cumulative: the best results are achieved with a course of 5–8 procedures with an interval of 1 time in 5–7 days (the exact scheme is selected by the beautician depending on the condition of the skin).
